MISSION
At Skillcraft Institute, our mission is to provide resources, education, and opportunities for young people seeking creative, fulfilling, and sustainable careers in Portland.
WHAT WE DO
On-site and in-studio classes allow enthusiastic young people to get a glimpse of life as a maker and imagine possible career paths into Portland’s design+build industries. Mentors in the field guide and lead instruction.Skills developed in the program span many industries such as: 3D art, fabrication, design, construction, architecture, engineering, film and theater production, product development, manufacturing and other skilled trades.
WHO WE SERVE
Our workforce development program serves those in our community with the highest need. We work with alternative education programs across the city of Portland, Oregon, offering underserved and underrepresented youth a place to continue to learn with their peers. By running community projects from start to finish and learning every aspect of the job, they leave the workshop with practical skills to strengthen their personal and professional lives.
GOAL
Our theory of change is that by providing a healthy community environment for engaging with possible creative careers, students will not only see a vision of their future but a path to get there. Our goal at Skillcraft Institute is to keep young people engaged in directed learning to promote resiliency and a lifetime of flourishing.Skillcraft Institute also fills a need laid out in Advance Portland: the city’s 5-year strategy for revitalization. https://www.advanceportland.com/
VISION
Our vision is a world where everyone transitioning to adulthood has a community of support without the possibility of falling through the social safety net. Healthy communities foster resilient individuals as long as we have ways for them to stay connected.
